Crystal Cave
Kate points at a small opening in a large pile of rocks. âThatâs the entrance to Crystal Cave.â
Sparky swims forward and sticks his head into the entrance. âYouâll need to give your eyes time to adjust to the darkness,â he informs us, âso that you wonât swim into anything sharp.â
Bella flashes me a nervous glance. I nod my head in understanding. She really doesnât like the dark, so Iâm not sure if sheâll be able to go into the cave.
Maria swims over and joins Sparky, and then the two of them disappear inside.
Dolly glances over at Bella. âWould you like to ride on my back?â she asks kindly.
A look of relief appears on Bellaâs face. âThat would be wonderful. Thanks, Dolly.â
Bella wraps her arms around Dolly and lets her tail rest on the dolphinâs back. I watch as the two of them slowly enter the cave.
âYou know what?â Kate says to me. âIt might be a good idea if Freddie took you in, since he knows the cave really well.â
Unlike Bella, Iâm not afraid of the dark. However, Iâm also not afraid to accept help.
âThat sounds like a good idea,â I say, wrapping my arms around Freddie and resting my tail on his back. With Kate in the lead, the three of us enter the cave.
At first, I canât see much of anything. But as Freddie swims deeper into the cave, light appears in front of us. When we emerge from the narrow tunnel, Freddie takes us to the surface of the water.
Wow! Crystal Cave is the most beautiful place Iâve ever seen! Crystals, in every colour, hang from the walls and ceiling. The pinholes of sunlight, streaming into the cave, bounce from crystal to crystalâcreating a disco-ball effect.
âThis is definitely a sparkling sight,â I tell my friends.
Bella nods her head, then asks, âBut how are we ever going to find the one thatâs full of light when this place is lit up like a Christmas tree!â
âIf we look closely, there must be one crystal thatâs sparklier than all the others,â Kate says.
Since we canât reach the crystals on the ceiling, we decide that the clue wouldnât be hidden up there. We also realize that the red, green, purple, and blue crystals arenât as sparkly as the yellow, orange, and pink crystals.
We spread out and look around every yellow, orange, and pink crystal we can reach. But after ten minutes of searching, we still donât have the next clue.
âWe must be missing something,â Bella says. âAnna, can you please read the last two lines of the clue again?â
âSure,â I reply. âSoon youâll see a sparkling sight. The one you want is full of light.â
âHmm. . . full of light,â Bella mutters. A second later, a big smile breaks out on her face. She points to the rays of sunlight streaming into the cave. âMaybe weâve been looking for the wrong thing,â she exclaims.
I know exactly what Bella is thinking. âInstead of looking for a sparkly crystal we should be looking for a crystal filled with sunlight!â I say excitedly.
